Sinds 2013 draaien we ze geregeld op ons HQ, de Britten van To Kill a King. Met name debuutplaat Cannibals with Cutlery staat vol met prachtige popliedjes en deed het zeer goed onder de ‘kenners’. Wat te denken van een quote als “The love child of INXS, The Maccabees and The National, with everything from charming ballads to big anthems”. Die kan je prima in je bio zetten. En dat deden ze ook, toen ze ons kortgeleden het nieuwe liedje The Problem of Evil stuurden.
De quote gaat nog steeds op wat ons betreft. En we voegen daar graag de namen van (het helaas ter ziele gegane) Dry the River en Matthew & the Atlas aan toe.
The Problem of Evil is geen simpel liefdesliedje, laat frontman Ralph Pelleymounter weten. Hij wil grote thema’s raken:
It’s about grief, anger, and the loss of faith. It’s about prayers going unanswered. It’s about a person trying to reconcile an all-powerful God with the evil in this world, and now more than ever it seems an appropriate time to share it with people.
