Sophia heeft spijt (8.0)

Na zeven jaar radiostilte verschijnt volgende maand met As We Make Our Way (Unknown Harbours) een nieuw album van Sophia, de rockband rondom de vanuit Engeland opererende Amerikaan Robin Proper-Sheppard. De indrukwekkend single ‘Resisting‘ laat horen dat we bijzonder blij moeten zijn met deze terugkeer.

As We Make Our Way (Unknown Harbours) is de opvolger van There Are No Goodbyes uit 2009. Voor Sophia zat Robin Proper-Sheppard in de band The God Machine, die in de begin jaren 90 vooral in Engeland faam maakte en met het album One Last Laugh in a Place of Dying een cultklassieker op hun naam hebben staan. Met de plotseling dood van bassist Jimmy Fernandez in 1994 kwam er ook een einde aan de band.

Over het nieuwe album vertelt Proper-Sheppard het volgende:

This record, I think at least, is more about, well, I guess it’s more about regret. Regret at not being a better son. Regret at not being a better father. Regret at not being the better person I know I should have been to all of the wonderful people that I’ve been so lucky to share my life with… I don’t necessarily sing directly about regret but I feel it when I listen to these songs. I guess these songs are just as much about what you feel while listening to them as they are about what they actually say…
