Austin en muziek is als yin & yang. Niet alleen vindt er elk jaar het majestueuze SXSW festival plaats, Austin is ook birthplace van vele te gekke band. Over het algemeen gekenmerkt door gitaren. Aan dat rijtje kunnen we nu ook The Mammoths toevoegen. Liedje Pistol Point is Amerikaanse psych-rock avanta la lettre. Futurebirds, Delta Saints (qua vocals).
Het verhaal van The Mammoths is klassiek. David, Michael en Tyler ontmoetten elkaar op hun middle school. Blues-rock werd funky psych-soul en tegenwoordig is het geluid zoals je hoort in Pistol Point. Grunge-endrix noemen ze het zelf.
Over het liedje vertellen ze:
The song was written after a time of change in my life. I had just quit a job and ended a relationship on the same day. I was not sleeping well at the time, and very unsure of where my life was headed. I had a dream that a pistol was pointed at my head and woke up sweating. The lyrics and chord progression to the verse immediately came out of me. […] At the end of the day, the song is about moving on no matter what curve balls get thrown at you.
