Laura Gibson en haar zoektocht naar tederheid (7.8)

Twee jaar na haar fijne plaat Empire Builder komt Laura Gibson eind oktober met de opvolger: Goners. Ze ging diep voor die plaat: “I tore my heart and brain apart on this one,” schrijft de Amerikaanse muzikante op Facebook. “And tried to say something true about grief and love and the ways we share pain with each other (that sounds rather dour, but I promise there are a few toe-tappers hidden amongst the sorrows).”

Eerste voorproefje Tenderness is meteen raak. Neem alleen al de openingszin: “I met you the year I stopped fearing my body.” Kijk, zo begin je dus een kort verhaal. Bij onze collega’s van The Fader vertelt Laura openhartig over het liedje:

“[it] reflects on the ways we project pain, lash out, or become cracked open by the immediacy of another person. […] The act of holding each others’ trauma and grief, is both miraculous and messy. When we’re young, we adopt certain strategies for seeking and receiving tenderness. Much of adulthood is spent dismantling those strategies, and drawing new ones. I wanted to write about that dismantlement.”

En dat is prachtig gelukt.
