Uit het Amerikaanse stadje Middlebury (Vermont) komt het het indie art-rockgeluid van The Giant Peach. Eind april verscheen hun eerste plaat: Pulling Teeth.
Met bandleden die qua muzikale scholing uit verschillende genre’s komen (folk, blues en jazz), vonden ze elkaar bij The Giant Peach vooral als liefhebbers van verhalende liedjes over, zoals ze zelf zeggen, “stubborn love, mistakes, and repeated carelessness with a cutting honesty and an unexpected joy”. Geen wereldschokkend of vernieuwende invalshoeken dus, maar het levert wel prima liedjes op, zoals het explosieve ‘Over Again‘, het intieme ‘Used‘ en het prachtige ‘Giving Up‘.
“It’s a collection of songs that I wrote over the course of my first relationship and at its end,” vertelt frontman Harrison Wood Hisang over het album. “There’s a lot of doubt in these songs — questioning your past wants and actions, questioning your beliefs as your overturn them one by one by letting people down and being let down, and ultimately questioning the kind of person that you are.”
